ONE OF THE LEGACIES I LEFT WHILE IN GOVERNMENT:
I may not have done much while I was in the Government of Abia State. But record has it that through my leadership engineering, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D, gave approval for the restoration of Electricity to Ukwa-West Local Government Area.
He also gave approval for money to be released for actualization of the Project. The actualization was real.
As depicted in the picture above, I initiated and inaugurated a 3-Man Task Force headed by a one-time Chief Whip of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Tony Mezie Nwubani. The other members were Dr Lucky Eleogu who served as Secretary, and Sir Eugene Ijeoma Dike as Member.
I did so on behalf and in the presence of Governor Ikpeazu.
That memorable day was Wednesday (Eke) 17th August, 2022.
One strategic innovation we introduced, following the professional advice of an experienced Asa Engineer from Nkpukwe in Asa-North, Elder Daniel John, was to reconnect Ukwa-West to the National Grid from my maternal home, Umugo in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area.
By so doing, and taking advantage of the proximity between Umugo and Obingwu-Asa in Asa-North Ward of Ukwa-West, we were able to avoid the previous constant menace of vandalisation and stealing of our High Tension lines by hoodlums that operated between Ihie and Ngwaiyiekwe, both in Ugwunagbo.
The Electric Light I successfully initiated its restoration in Ukwa-West is still functional in Asa-North today. I may not know the situation in other parts.
Community Leaders in Asa-North took the responsibility of protecting their Transformers and Electric Lines.
For some individuals that have the perchance to say Sir Don Ubani ‘did nothing’ while in Government, how would they reconcile their inclination with this glaring fact?
Happy Sunday, even though I am not very happy because I lost my maternal uncle, Mr Alison Kanu of Umuonyearu in Umugo-Amano Autonomous Community in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of my dear State of Abia.
Sir Don Ubani, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Abia, served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the Office of the Deputy Governor of Abia State.
