Are Abia APC Candidates Conspiring Against The Party’s 2027 Governorship Candidate?
In the gospel according to St Mark in chapter 3:24, our Lord Jesus Christ emphatically stated, ‘if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom can not stand’.
Going by that biblical assertion, any football team that her players are selfishly driven will always end her matches in stories of woes. No team that works at cross purposes actualizes victory.
All Progressives Congress, APC, was not popular in Abia State up to 2023 general election. It was, however, prominent in some parts of Abia-North Senatorial District. The Party, sequel to internal crisis that debilitated Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nigeria, had a groundswell in Abia State after the 2023 general election that saw Labour Party take over the State.
Ordinarily-speaking, many Politicians in PDP would have been inclined to pitch their tent with Labour Party but that was not the case, as the leadership of Labour Party was and is still generally perceived as being high handed, intolerant, unaccommodating, and vindictive. So, more than 70% of those that left the PDP moved to APC.
Where there is cohesion, no Political Party in Abia State can effectively stand in competition with the All Progressives Congress because of the overwhelming numerical strength of her membership. Besides, many of them are experienced politicians, strategists, and tacticians.
Painfully, APC in Abia State is yet to appreciate the significant importance of unity and cohesion. Her leaders make public utterances that confuse and demoralize ordinary members of the Party that constitute the majority of what should be her voting strength.
The worst that is associated with the Party is open segregation and discrimination by some of her candidates. Many of the Party’s candidates are reported to have been consulting and or campaigning from door to door without mentioning the name of the Party’s 2027 Governornorship Candidate. What does that portend? It clearly shows that such candidates have an entirely different agenda. It may not be wrong to believe they are working for continuity by Labour Party in the State.
Even in the billboards some of the Party’s candidates mount, like the one at Umuikaa Junction in Isialangwa-South Local Government Area along Enugu-Port-Harcourt Express Road, it is glaringly clear that those candidates have no interest in the Party’s Governorship Candidate, and they are not, in any way, willing to hide their lack of interest. Unfortunately they appear to be oblivious of what Master Jesus told His disciples in Mark 3:24.
By way of advice, APC in Abia State should try and put her acts together. This manifest discrimination, segregation and geo-sectional division will only lead to failure. If it is true that a good number of them are hellbent in making sure that Labour Government continues up to 2031, they should be bold enough to say so, than resorting to a disgusting game of hide and seek.
Finally, I strongly wish to urge those who believe in the Party not to be discouraged by the antics of those whose insincerity has not yet found a hiding place. With good planning and strategic exploits, APC will produce the next Governor of Abia State.
