Apart from corruption, especially in the Third World, three evils currently confronting humanity are illicit drugs, terrorism and genocide against Christians.
Illicit drug trafficking has created a lot of socio-economic problems in many societies around the globe. Many youths have lost focus today because of the influence of drugs illicitly left at their disposal. A good number that would, ordinarily, have ended up as renowned Farmers, Captains of Industries, and Professionals in different areas of endeavour have ended up as mere urchins constituting nuisance to human communities. Many parents and guardians are today in very painful mood because of the effects of illicit drugs on their children and wards.
The destructive consequences of consumption of illicit drugs are not limited to social dislocations in families but go a long way to constitute major threats to security of lives and properties, not only within nearby vicinities but to even places that are variously near and wide. Many cases of crime, including armed robbery and kidnappings, are drug-induced.
While the Nigerian society was suffocating under the weight of armed robbery and its twin sister of kidnapping, little did her citizens ever imagine that a holocaust would be coming in the form and shape of terrorism.
Terrorism, not only in Nigeria but globally, appears to have a characteristic sequence. It is stimulated by Islamist fundamentalism. Radical Moslems, who strictly follow the teachings of Islam as written in the Koran in which they are supposedly instructed to kill non-believers of their faith, have caused and are still causing a lot of atrocities against humanity, not only in Nigeria but the world over.
On the 11th of September, 2001, Islamist terrorists of al-Qaeda network sponsored by Osaman bin Landen, using two planes they had hijacked, bombed the World Trade Centre in New York, USA. That attack alone killed 3,000 people. It almost destroyed global economy.
Before the attack of 9/11, as the attack of September 11, 2001 was widely called, Islamist terrorists of the same al-Qaeda gang, with Ramzi Yousef as mastermind, had attacked the World Trade Centre on February 26, 1993, killing about 6 persons and injuring about 1,000 people.
On international illicit drug trafficking, both Colombia and Venezuela have notoriously made the world a place not to live peacefully and stably in.
In summation, Islamist fundamentalism in Nigeria is responsible for genocide against Christians in the North. It is hard to imagine that an Islamist Cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, could come out openly in support of terrorists and even advocates for negotiation between terrorists and the various Governments of Nigeria. In sane climes, such a man should be kept under lock and key but regrettably he is treated like a sacred cow.
It may be necessary to point out that while revenue from crude oil and gas in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria are used to propel and sustain more than 80% of development in Nigeria, accruable revenue from Gold and other Mineral Resources in the North are deliberately restricted to the North. Speculations have it that many leaders in the North fuel terrorism in order to scare the Federal Government of Nigeria away from monitoring mining of the Minerals in the North.
At the global stage, terrorism evidently constitutes the most dangerous threat to the United States of America. In the same vein, illicit drug trafficking is and remains one of the most teething socio-psychological challenges to humanity. These are challenges that should not be treated with kid gloves.
Therefore, the world should rise in admiration, with maximum respect, of President Donald Trump for his doggedness in capturing President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela and his wife, Cilia Flores in an operation codenamed Absolute Resolve executed on Saturday (Nkwo) 3rd January, 2026, and his preliminary combined steps with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Government to send serious warnings to Islamist terrorists in Nigeria.
By these actions, President Trump has instilled consciousness towards accountability in leadership, and restraint in the recklessness of Islamist terrorists.
