Concerned about the deplorable and pathetic state of rural dwellers, a good majority of who are peasant farmers and petty traders, the Hon Federal Commissioner representing Abia State on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chief Eruba Dimgba, Ph.D, has established a Charity Foundation to assist those in dire need of financial assistance in order to give a boost to their small scale engagements.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Non-Governmental and Non-Profit outfit, Eruba Dimgba Foundation, at Lenzor Hotel at Ezendioma in Ukwa-West Local Government Area of Abia State, the Founder and Patron of the Foundation, Chief Eruba Dimgba, stated that he was moved to establish the Foundation because of his sensitivity to the plight of the poor.

According to the Federal Commissioner, his desire to alleviate poverty amongst the downtrodden compelled him to think in this direction. He pointed out that the initiative was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Furthermore, Chief Eruba Dimgba, who appreciated God for His exceptional benevolence, made it clear that he was morally obliged to give back to the society a reasonable proportion of what the society has given him. He, therefore, admonished the would-be beneficiaries of the Foundation to be very meticulous and prudent in managing whatever the Foundation would provide for them in the very near future.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Ike Kanu, Ph.D, who is the Proprietor of Chyvik Model Secondary, Obehie-Asa and also a retired Senior Management Staff in Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, expressed happiness that Chief Dimgba, unlike many individuals who are or were fortunate to occupy strategic positions in the society, has thought it wise and expedient to create a means of putting smiles on the faces of persons who are finding it difficult to eke out a living.

The Chairman, while calling on other well privileged members of the society to emulate the remarkable positive example set by Chief Dimgba in order to reduce poverty, equally advised those that would benefit from Chief Dimgba’s magnanimity to endeavour to take maximum advantage of the assistance in order to generate income on their own and, so, help themselves improve their life conditions.

The occasion was witnessed by many dignitaries from within Ukwa and beyond. Some of those that were present at the inauguration included the Traditional Ruler of Ezendioma Autonomous Community, His Royal Highness, Eze Tunde Ehiemere, a former Deputy Leader in Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Paul Taribo, a former Chief Whip of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Tony Mezie Nwubani, a former Executive Chairman of Ukwa-West Local Government Council, Chief Uzoma Nwaji, the immediate-past Transition Chairman of Ukwa-West Local Government Council, Chief John Ajuzieogu, a former Commissioner in Abia State Local Government Service Commission, Sir Eugene Ijeoma Dike, a former Head of Service in Abia State Unified Local Government Service, Barr Sam Ogbonna, the President-General of Asa Development Union, Elder Goodluck Nwuju, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Abia State, Sir Don Ubani, and the Abia State Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Azubuike Nwaubani. Many of the personalities who graced the occasion pledged different amounts of money in support of the Foundation.

The highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of Cordinators of the Foundation.
