Avoid Forcing Nigeria’s Democracy Into A Head-On Collision With The Military.
Thursday (Eke)13-11-2025.
Not minding some avoidable lapses which basically may not be her fault, the Nigerian Military has been a source of strength, protection and pride to the Nigerian State.
Without the costly sacrifices Officers and Men of the Nigerian Military have constantly made, the country would have been overrun by senseless brutal Islamist Jihadists. Many of them have paid the ultimate price while defending their fatherland. There are many widows and fatherless children today in Nigeria who found themselves in such miserable condition because their husbands and fathers died while defending the country against Jihadists.
Not long ago, there was speculation that an attempt at a Military putsch was discovered and timely aborted. Though the Military hierarchy quickly dismissed it as unfounded, it created a lot of apprehension in the country.
Whether there was any likelihood of truth in that rumour or not, there is need for good understanding and trust between the Government and the Military, with exception of no National Security Agency.
Every Official of Government, elected or appointed, has a fundamental responsibility to make sure, through his or her actions or pronouncements, that Nigeria’s Democracy is not brought into a head-on Collision with the Nigerian Military.
When those currently serving in the Military start having a feeling that their former Bosses who are now retired are being treated disdainfully and disrespectfully by the Government of the day, it may not enhance absolute loyalty from them.
Equity Global Reporters Ltd is of the view that whoever is an appointee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should try, as much as possible, to avoid any action or utterance that has the potential of creating avoidable conflicts that could injure the morale of the Nigerian Military and, consequently affect their loyalty to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
