The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency, in Abia State, has continued to exhibit determination to plant and assert dominance in the grassroots’ dynamics of the Federal Constituency.

Knowing that what influences and determines the success and relevance of a Political Party in any given polity is its numerical strength and support in the area, the Member representing Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Representatives, Hon (Chief) Chris Nkwonta, who, initially was elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party before his constituents had to prevail on him to defect to APC due to compelling reasons, has been busy moving from Ward to Ward mobilizing grassroots’ support for APC in the Federal Constituency. The response has been very massive and assuring.

Interest in APC in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency has become so deep that Political Leaders in Wards now, on their own, arrange grand receptions for Hon (Chief) Nkwonta, during which hundreds of members of other Political Parties denounce their Political Parties and openly embrace APC.

That was the scene at Akanu-Ndoki in Ikwuorieato-East Ward, in Ukwa-East Local Government Area, last Sunday when Leaders and People of the Ward, in collaboration with Leaders and People of Ikwuorieato-West Ward, organized a reception for Hon(Chief) Nkwonta.

On that occasion, the Member representing Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Representatives, Hon (Chief) Chris Nkwonta, assured the People that his decision to defect to APC, as urged by many of his constituents, was informed by his desire to attract substantial dividends of democracy to the Federal Constituency.

He made it plain that it would have amounted to a wrong political calculation for him not to have adhered to the demand by his constituents to join APC, knowing the challenges of total neglect and lack of development that have been confronting the People of Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency over the years.

Hon (Chief) Nkwonta, who expressed gratitude to the People of Ikwuorieato-East and Ikwuorieato-West Wards for coming out en masse to accord him a befitting reception, assured them that they will be highly treasured in his heart, and will certainly benefit from his developmental agenda.

The Hon Member also used the opportunity to call on the People of Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency to give maximum support to the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which he described as a Government that has been taking very tough decisions in order to bring Nigeria out of its present economic difficulties.

Hon (Chief) Nkwonta informed the People that his membership of the 10th House of Representatives has been made more relevant and useful because of the support he has been receiving from both the Speaker, Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu. He expressed immense gratitude to both of them, and all Members of the 10th House of Representatives.

Earlier in their Welcome address, which was presented by a former Chairman of Ukwa-East Local Government Council, and a prominent Journalist in Abia State, Chief Uche Aja, who took advantage of the occasion to defect from PDP to APC, with hundreds of People from PDP and other Political Parties, the People of Ikwuorieato-East and Ikwuorieato-West said they were fascinated by the achievements of Hon (Chief) Nkwonta within so short a time in the National Assembly.

According to Chief Uche Aja, the electorate in both Ikwuorieato-East and Ikwuorieato-West Wards were impressed by the fact that of all that Hon (Chief) Nkwonta has attracted within this short time, which include; (1) Bursary to Students in Higher Institutions, (2) Skill Acquisition in Soap Making and Hair dressing, (3) Motor-cycles, (4) Solar Boreholes, (5) Classroom Blocks, and (6) various forms of empowerment, he has never arrogated those things to himself, as sole provider. He has, rather, been so honest, humble and transparent in informing the masses that it was the Federal Government, and not himself, that provided the source of such empowerment.

The People were also delighted that Hon (Chief) Nkwonta was very vibrant in his legislative duties in the Parliament.

Chief Uche Aja went on, on behalf of the People of the two Wards, to congratulate Hon (Chief) Nkwonta on his appointment as Chairman of House of Representatives’ Committee of newly created South-East Development Commission, SEDC, and expressed optimism that the Commission will be of great significance in the much-needed development of South-East Region of Nigeria, including Ikwuorieato-East and Ikwuorieato-West Wards.

At the commencement of the event, the Chairman of the ceremony and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Abia State, Sir Don Ubani, applauded the People of Ikwuorieato-East and Ikwuorieato-West Wards for deeming it necessary to organize a colourful reception for Hon (Chief) Chris Nkwonta, and defecting in their hundreds to APC. He assured them that with the calibre and characteristic of Hon (Chief) Nkwonta, the steps they have taken were ones in the right direction, that will surely yield maximum dividends of democracy.

In their various speeches, the Commissioner representing Abia State on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Eruba Dimgba, who was a Special Guest of Honour, the Chairman of APC in Ukwa-East Local Government Area, Chief Ronald Anyamele, a former Chairman of Ukwa-East Local Government Area, Hon Godson Nwulu, and Coordinator of the ceremony, Engr Chinedu Ekeke, expressed their determination to make sure that APC will systematically emerge as the indisputable dominant and victorious Party in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency. They, therefore, called on all the defectors to be steadfast in the very reasonable choice they have made by joining APC, and assured them that they will be happy at the end for the choice they have made.

Before taking his seat at Akanu village square, being venue for the reception and mass defection, Hon (Chief) Nkwonta, accompanied by Chief Eruba Dimgba, and some others, had paid a courtesy visit to the Traditional Head of Akanu-Ndoki, Chief Martin Jite Nwulu, who was said to have flown from the United States of America just to host the Federal Representative.

Among those that accompanied Hon (Chief) Chris Nkwonta to the reception were; (1) the State Assistant Secretary and Acting Publicity-Secretary of APC in Abia State, Engr Chinwe Sterling Uruakpa, (2) a former Executive Chairman of Ukwa-West Local Government Area, Chief Okey Kanu, (3) a prominent Politician from Ukwa-East Local Government Area, Chief Chidi Percy Ajiere, (4) a former Member of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Goldie Wabara, (5) a grassroots politician from Ukwa-East Local Government Area, Mr Paul Udechukwu, (6) a former Commissioner that represented Abia State on the Board of defunct Oil Minerals Producing Area Development Commission, OMPADEC, Sir Esiaba Iwezor, (7) a former Commissioner in Abia State Local Government Service Commission, Sir Eugene Ijeoma Dike, (8) a former Chairman of Ukwa-West Local Government Council, Chief John Ajuzieogu, (9) Chief Emeka Nwoha, (10) Mr Maxwell Chinmuanya Elechi, (11) Mr Emeka Okorie, and (12) Mr Boniface Nwogu.
